Hi, my name is Mel Tilsed and I first joined the cosmetic industry 17 years ago as a Virgin Vie Consultant working for Richard Branson. At the time my children were very small, and I had low self-esteem and little confidence, working for Virgin gave me that back, I made new friends and learnt new skills and quickly became a manager and trained as a bridal makeup artist with a top celebrity makeup artist! Since then my business has gone from strength to strength! My children are now 20 and 23 and I have had time to build my business organically and after more training 8 years ago added hairstyling to my repertoire. The last few years have been amazing, I have been blessed to win some amazing awards, and recently I have I have won Bridal Hairstylist of the Year for the Salon Awards. Seeing my work published in print and writing articles for bridal magazines has been awesome too.
I love meeting new brides and their families and friends when I do their wedding make up and/or hair and it is an honour to be a part of their special day. Customer service is key to any great business and I believe in listening to you the client and helping you to achieve the most beautiful bespoke look for you, so that you feel and look amazing on your special day. Nothing is too much and my amazing bridal reviews speak volumes and for those I am very grateful.
In between running my own business I work for The Shine Project which is a local charity that runs 8 week courses for early intervention physical and mental health, having suffered with anxiety and panic attacks as a teenager, I completely get it and find it so rewarding to help young people gain confidence in themselves. I find that a lot of brides feel anxious or lack confidence too and I love that I can help them too by giving them confidence and making them look and feel amazing on their wedding day, so the 2 things work well together. Somehow I also find time to volunteer for Look Good Feel Better, which is a National charity which runs workshops in local hospitals for patients going through cancer treatment and I also run a local Boys Brigade and Girls Association on a weekly basis!
In between that, I love going to the gym (it keeps me sane) walking my dogs and I do love a cheeky glass of Gin on occasion.
This is me and my business in a nutshell! I love it and I love being a part of the most exciting day in your lives xx
